Options You Can Consider When Coating Your Garage Floor

If you are looking for a way to enhance the appearance of your exterior flooring surfaces such as in the garage, then you should opt to enlist floor coating services. However, engaging these services is not simply about hiring a contractor and having them apply a floor coating. There are different subtypes of floor coating that you could use, and making a selection on what would work best for you would depend on your individual needs as well as aesthetic preferences. Here are some of the options that you can consider when coating your garage flooring.

Epoxy floor coating

Epoxy is one of the more durable options that you could consider when it comes to floor coating. It is made up of plastic and resin materials that reinforce its innate strength. This makes it an ideal option for garages that experience heavy traffic such as those used as workshops, entertainment areas and more. Another benefit of epoxy is that it comes in a wide assortment of colours so you can rest assured you will find a hue that will complement the overall colour palette of your home.

When it comes to epoxy floor coating, you have to choose from three different application types.  These types of applications include solvent-based epoxy coating, solid epoxy coating and water-based epoxy coating. It should be noted that epoxy would not be suitable for garage floors that are constantly exposed to water, as this moisture will impede on the epoxy's bonding process.

Paint floor coating

When it comes to paint floor coating, you cannot simply purchase any type of paint and begin covering your floor with it. Paint used primarily as floor coating is either oil based or latex based. Latex tends to be the more popular option with floor coating contractors as it has the ability to adhere onto a wide variety of surfaces. In addition to this, the latex-based paint floor coating allows the elimination of water vapour from its surface. This ensures that the process of delamination on your garage flooring is prevented.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a shiny finish for your garage flooring, then you could consider oil-based paints. It should be noted, though, that oil-based paints will not be able to withstand constant exposure to hot tires. As such, they make a better floor coating for garages that are used for other applications, such as storage spaces.
